Overview
Adult outpatient speech pathology service.
What we do
Manage clients over 18 years of age with new onset/acquired swallowing and communication disorders.
Our team includes speech pathologists, an allied health assistant, and student speech pathologists.
When to access this service
Adults experiencing new changes to swallowing (oro-pharyngeal) or communication (e.g. language, voice, speech).
What to expect
First appointments are typically one hour, during which time the speech pathologist will explore your reason for referral, assess your swallow or communication, and discuss a plan to manage your concern.
Should therapy be indicated, sessions are 30 minutes 1-2 times per week (per speech pathologist prescription) for maximum of 6 weeks. These may be delivered one-on-one or in a group setting.
Who should access this service
Illawarra residents over 18 years of age with new onset/acquired swallowing or communication changes. Clients must be able to attend the outpatient clinic, and be able to actively participate in therapy.

No referral necessary.

Parking and Transport
Port Kembla Hospital is located on Cowper Street. Pedestrians can access the hospital from the main entrance on Cowper Street. There is a bus stop located close to the hospital with the following services available - Premier Illawarra 52, 53 and 54.
Port Kembla Hospital: There is limited parking available for patients, families and carers at the back of the hospital, via Fairfax Road.
Advice for disabled in getting to the service
There are disabled parking spots in the car park. The drop off zone at the front door of the hospital can be accessed via the entrance on Cowper Street.
