Prosthetic Clinic - Port Kembla Hospital

Overview

The Prosthetic Clinic is an outpatient clinic at Port Kembla Hospital for people with an amputation of one or more limbs.

The clinic is staffed by a rehabilitation physician, a prosthetist, a physiotherapist, a rehabilitation nurse and a volunteer amputee. The aim of the service is to provide specialised care for amputees. We assess mobility and prescribe new limbs and replacement parts as needed.

The Clinic runs twice or three times a month on a Tuesday, from 9.30am -12:00pm. A GP referral is required.

What to expect

You will be seen by the rehabilitation physician, prosthetist, physiotherapist and nurse.

Consultations times usually take 20-30mins

Note: bring your current prosthesis

Consultations may include

  • Assessment - show your walking ability, discuss issues with current prosthesis
  • Management - prescribing of a new prosthesis or replacement parts of the old prosthesis e.g. sockets, new foot. Medication needs or wound dressing needs.
  • Referral to other clinicians/allied health as required
  • Support and counselling for both client and carers.
