What the service is
The Unit was developed and designed to cater for consumers over the age of 65.
What we do
The Unit has a 14 patient capacity, and all patients have a single room with an en suite. Meals are ordered by consumers on the same day and all consumers eat in the dining area together. There is a patient's phone that you are able to use, and ring the Unit on 4253 4460.The Unit can have consumers from Helensburgh to South Durras. The unit is linked to the community teams based in Nowra, who provide follow-up in the southern regions; and Coniston, who provide follow-up in the northern regions. Consumers in the Unit may receive care from staff from several different professional disciplines.

How to get there
You can drive to Wollongong Hospital or use public transport. The hospital faces Crown Street, however the main street entrance is via Loftus Street. The nearest train station is Wollongong Railway Station, and buses service the area. The Specialist Mental Health Service Inpatient Unit for Older People is in the main hospital building – Level 4, Block D.
