The High Risk Foot Service (HRFS) provides multi-disciplinary care for patients living with diabetes in Wollongong and Shoalhaven areas. It is for people with active foot disease including foot ulceration/wounds and Charcot neuro-arthropathy.
Wound healing and diabetic foot problems can be complicated. The HRFS treats factors that slow healing, aims to reduce risk of hospitalisation and improve long term health.
The HRFS team includes podiatrists, an endocrinologist, a physiotherapist, an infectious disease specialist, a dietitian, and a diabetes educator. The service works with vascular and orthopaedic surgeons to manage foot problems. It is for people who are keen to improve their health and it is important that people attending HRFS follow advice to reqach their goals. There are podiatry only services available for clients who only need a podiatrist.
Referrals are to be addressed to Dr Matthew Luttrell, Endocrinologist and emailed or faxed to the Access and Referral Centre who will assess criteria prior to accepting the referral.
