What the service is

We offer a physiotherapy service for patients who are admitted to the Kiama Ward. 

What we do

We provide patient-centred in-patient physiotherapy to patients during their hospital stay.

When to access this service

You may get referred to this service by your doctor during your hospital stay to assist in your recovery. 

What to expect

  • To receive patient-centred care:  Including you when making decision relating to your health and treatment
  • To participate in individual or group physiotherapy sessions
  • To receive an exercise program which you will practice independently when safe
  • To learn the skills needed to manage safely and optimise your function once you have been discharged from the hospital

How to access this service

You must be over 65 and under the care of a geriatrician to access this service.  Once accepted onto the ward your medical team will organise your transfer from the acute hospital to the Kiama Ward.

What to bring

If possible, please bring comfortable clothes, good closed in shoes (no thongs or floppy slippers), and a mobility aid if you have one so you can move around the ward and participate in physiotherapy sessions. Please also bring glasses and hearing aids if needed.

How to get there, including by public transport

Shellharbour Private Hospital is located  just down the road from Stockland Shellharbour Shopping Centre and Public Hospital with local buses available throughout the day running from the to the city centres and local train stations.

Advice for disabled in getting to the service

A drop off zone at the main entrance to the hospital provides level access to the main reception. The Kiama ward is approximately 50m from the main entrance.

Head of Discipline - Physiotherapy

Anne Smith is the Physiotherapy Head of Discipline for the Illawarra and Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD). She brings 27 years’ experience in Physiotherapy, having worked in a variety of settings including Hospital, community, and private.

Anne is responsible for providing professional leadership of Physiotherapy services across the LHD including Hospital and community based services.

The ISLHD Physiotherapy Department provides a broad range of clinical services and is committed to providing a comprehensive, professional and timely service.
