Shoalhaven Community Mental Health Rehabilitation Service
Overview
What the service is
This service is a community based mental health rehabilitation service providing therapeutic and educational interventions, to build psychological and practical skills and improve quality of living. The Rehabilitation Service is guided by the principles of recovery. The rehabilitation team consists of various allied health staff, peer support workers, and a health education officer.
What we do
The service works broadly to reduce the impact of a mental health condition on a person’s life. Interventions are time limited and centred on the needs and goals identified by the person. As such, the focus of intervention is holistic, looking at all life domains. This may include addressing needs in the areas of study and employment, physical health, social and family connection, and psychological health; depending on what the individual identifies. The service provides individualised mental health education which aims to help individuals gain knowledge and self-awareness and build skills in self-management of mental health.
Rehabilitation clinicians are trained in the strengths-based model of practice. The care-planning process and all subsequent interventions are conducted in collaboration with the individual and are driven by the priorities they identify.
Staff have an understanding of and commitment to the principal of Trauma Informed Care, and work with an awareness that many people using the service have a lived experience of trauma.
What to expect
New consumers of the Rehabilitation Service can expect to be contacted by a Rehabilitation Clinician within 2 weeks of referral.

- Access to a range of therapeutic group programs to compliment individual learning.
- Access to a Health Education Officer for physical health screening, referral and advice.
- Access to Peer Support Workers.
