Our Systems

ISMI has been at the leading edge of imaging services in the NSW public sector for the last 17 years, commencing in 2002, when our service became an early adopter of computerised Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and the related Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS). The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD), along with NSW Health, has recently upgraded our PACS/RIS system to Sectra/Kestral as an essential element in provision of Diagnostic Medical Imaging services to our patients, and referring clinicians internally, and across our communities. This system is in active use by front line clinicians within our 9 hospitals, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It is closely connected to our Cerner eMR (Electronic Medical Record), with real time messaging between the systems as required for safe and effective clinical workflow management. Our clinical information systems are used by the disciplines of Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Gastroenterology, and as a repository for Clinical Photography

Our RIS/PACS is the most advanced Informatics installation in the Asia Pacific Region, and currently holds 97 million images, each with its own unique identifier.

Privacy and security

Our systems maintain the privacy and security of your health information as required by law. As a NSW Health agency we will make health information available to the health providers that you have authorised as part of the My Health Record program. It is not intended that My Health Record will replace, or should be relied upon in place of, health records maintained by a health service. The purpose of My Health Record is to provide individuals with an online tool to manage and view a summary of their health records in accordance with Commonwealth eHealth policy.
