Accordion Content

Liz will be joining Naomi Viret, sexual health education officer from Caddyshack Project for an informal question & answer style webinar on aspects of relationships, disability, sexual & reproductive health. You may recognise Liz’s name from her work and TV appearances in “Love me as I am” and “The Dateables

People on the autism spectrum, with disability or brain injury face the same issues as other people when it comes to relationships. Friendship is important. And the desire to love and be loved, whether as a friend or an intimate companion, is a drive that defines a person in a way that no disability ever can. People with a disability need to gain the skills and rules that help to form relationships as this has such a positive impact on our lives. Liz has worked with people with disability for over thirty years including education, employment, residential, legal rights and recreation. She has more than 15 years’ experience counselling and providing training in relationships and sexuality to people with disability, family members and support staff.

On the Couch with Hepatitis NSW Speaker Service-the power of personal story July 2022

Accordion Content

Join Connie Graf, a social worker from the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District Drug & Alcohol Service as she hosts a guest from the Hepatitis NSW Speaker Service.

The power of personal story is universally inspiring, and the Speaker Service enables listeners to change community attitudes and challenge stigma experienced by people living with viral hepatitis.

The Speaker Service gives people who are affected by viral hepatitis the opportunity to talk about the psychosocial or medical related aspects of their experience of living with hep C.

Hepatitis C (usually called hep C) is an easily-cured liver infection that is caused by hepatitis C virus (HCV). The virus is slow acting and symptoms may not appear for many years. People could be living with hep C and not know it. Undiagnosed hep C can cause serious health problems, including liver damage, cirrhosis (scarring of the liver), liver cancer, and even death.

Hep C is transmitted through blood-to-blood contact. This is when the blood of someone with hep C gets into your blood stream. It can cause long-term health problems if left untreated, particularly for the liver.

An estimated 200,000-220,000 people live with chronic hepatitis C in Australia. New hepatitis C treatments are simple, safe, and highly effective.
